Bows of USS Chenango (CVE-28), 1943
This colour picture shows the bows of the Sangamon class escort carrier USS Chenango (CVE-28) and helps show how the flight deck was added above her original bow. Also note the small '28' painted on each side of the bow. This arrangement of the bows did provide space for anti-aircraft guns, which can be seen in their circular platforms.
