USS Chenango (CVE-28) as an oiler
Here we see the future Sangamon class escort carrier USS Chenango (CVE-28) in her first configuration, as the fleet oiler AO-31. The picture was taken off the Boston Navy Yard on 1 July 1941, some time before she was selected for conversion into an aircraft carrier.
