Naval Aircraft Factory TS-1 Floatplane on USS Charles Ausburn (DD-294)
Here we see a Naval Aircraft Factory TS-1 Floatplane being carried on the Clemson class destroyer USS Charles Ausburn c.1923. When used from smaller warships the TS-1 had to be lowered onto the surface of the sea using cranes, although the crane isn't obvious on this picture. The tall structure being used to carry the aircraft must have been designed to prevent it interfering with the forward gun, but it must have had some impact on the view from the bridge!
