Launch Ceremony for USS Casablanca (CVE-55)
Here we see the launch ceremony for the Casablanca class escort carrier USS Casablanca (CVE-55) on 5 April 1943. Two of her sister ships can also be seen approaching completion, with two more probably being built on the fringes of the photograph. This gives an excellent idea of the impressive scale of the US ship building programme during the Second World War.
