Damage to side of USS Bunker Hill (CV-17)
Here we see the side of the Essex class carrier USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) after she was hit by two kamikaze aircraft on 11 May 1945. Here we see streams of water from the fire fighting effort pouring off the flight deck. We can also see some of the many AA guns carried by later carriers, with heavier guns in a damaged gun position and smaller guns just below the edge of the deck.
