USS Breton (CVE-23) at San Francisco, 1943
This bow view shows us the Bogue class escort carrier USS Breton (CVE-23) in San Francisco Bay, 10 May 1943. From this angle it is clear how the flight deck was simply added on top of an existing merchant ship hull, leaving plenty of gaps underneath, and leaving the original bow area intact.
