USS Borie (DD-215) being bombed by aircraft from USS Card (CVE-13)
Here we see the Clemson class destroyer USS Borie (DD-215) being bombed by aircraft from the escort carrier USS Card (CVE-13), after the Borie was badly damaged while ramming U-405 on 1 November 1943. The Borie was too badly damaged to risk towing her to port, and it was decided to sink her. This aircraft attack failed to do the job, and eventually she was sunk by the destroyer USS Barry (DD-248).
