1.1in AA guns on fantail of USS Astoria (CA-34)
Here we see the fantail of the New Orleans class heavy cruiser USS Astoria (CA-34), showing the quad 1.1in/ 75 anti-aircraft guns and their director enclosures (with the actual directors missing). Note also the crewmen sunbathing on the deck behind the guns! This picture dates to 9 July 1941, so before the US entry into the Second World War.
