Boiler Controls, USS Alabama (BB-60)
Here we see a fireman puting on a burner of one of the boilers of the South Dakota class battleship USS Alabama (BB-60) in January 1943, during her shakedown cruise. This picture gives some idea of the complexity of the controls on her oil firing boilers, but they were still easier for the crew than older coal fired boilers had been!
