U-744 on surface

Here we see the submarine U-744 on the surface after she was forced up by depth charges from the I class destroyer HMS Icarus and a 31 hour chase. Here she is seen between the flower class corvette HMCS Chilliwack and the River class frigate HMCS St. Catharines. The submarine was boarded and documents were found, but most were lost before they could reach the Allied warships. An attempt to tow the submarine to shore failed, and she was scuttled.
