U-243 under attack
Here we see U-243 under attack by a Sunderland of No.10 Squadron, RAAF, flown by Flying Officer W.B. Tilley, in the Bay of Biscay on 8 July 1944, during the campaign to keep the U-boats away from the shipping channel to Normandy. 38 of her crew survived the attack, presumably including some of the men seen on the bridge here.
