Curtiss SOC-3A Seagull on USS Long Island (CVE-1)
Here we see a Curtiss SOC-3A Seagull on the deck of the escort carrier USS Long Island (CVE-1) near Argentia in January 1942. Soon after Pearl Harbor the Long Island was given the task of escorting a convoy to Newfoundland, and this picture was probably taken during that mission. Notice the snow that coats the flight deck and is even sticking to the front of the aircraft!
