Lavochkin La-5FN in Flight
Here we see a Soviet Lavochkin La-5FN single engined fighter in flight. The La-5F introduced the cut down rear fuselage to give a better pilot view while the LA-5FN introduced the long supercharger intake trunk on top of cowling seen here. The later La-7 had the oil cooler below the engine moved back to a postion below the fuselage. It is a sign of how secretive the Soviets could be that the wartime caption allocated to this picture called it a Yak-3.
