Casemate guns of HMS Implacable

Here we see see the 6in casemate guns of the Formidable class battleship HMS Implacable. These were carried on two levels, with four on the lower level and two on the upper level. In this picture the two front guns are deployed as are the two rear guns (although only a small part of the lower-rear gun can be seen. The two lower-middle guns have been withdrawn within the casemate. The lower gun positions were given closable shutters, mainly to keep water out when operating in heavy seas. On the deck between the two upper guns the barrels of some of the ship's 6-pounders can also be seen
