Boeing B-17 on Air Sea Rescue Duty
Here we see an SG-17G, the air-sea rescue version of the Flying Fortress. Aircraft 43-39268 was a B-17G-105-BO that was assigned to the HQ of the 315th Bombardment Wing during the war. She was converted into an SG-17G, which involved replacing the chin turret with ASV radar and adding an air-dropable life boat below the fuselage. Otherwise the type carried the same guns as the basic B-17G.
