Telegram Announcing Sgt. A.J. Griffiths is Missing

A reminder of the cost of war, this is the telegram informing Sgt A.J. Griffith's father that his son was missing in action. Sadly Sgt. Griffiths had been killed when his Handley Page Hampden was lost in the IJsselmeer near Kampen in the Netherlands late on 10 August 1940 during a raid on Homberg. The telegram is short and to the point 'Regret inform you your son 581384 Sergeant Griffiths reported missing 10th August Letter Follows.'

Many thanks to Roger Griffith, the nephew of Sgt. A.J. Griffiths of No.144 Squadron, for sending us these pictures.
