British attack designed to push the Turks away from the port of Jaffa and make it safe for use. The Turks are defending the three easiest ways across the River Auja, so on the night of 20-21 December the British cross the river on a mix of pontoons and rafts. On 21 December the attack the Turkish positions from unexpected directions.

General Max von Gallwitz, commander of the Fifth Army at Verdun, is awarded the Order of the Black Eagle.
