Battle of the Somme: Battle of the Ancre

The battle of the Ancre was the last phase of the battle of the Somme. The aim was to push back the Germans around two miles and capture Beaucourt.

The attack began on 13 November. II Corps attacked south of the Ancre and V Corps to the north. On 13 November the troops just to the north of the Ancre made the most progress, but further north the German lines held.
