Battle of the Somme: battle of the Ancre Heights

Part of the British plan for the Battle of the Ancre Heights is for an attack along the Ancre River, to begin on 25 October. The attack has to be postponed twice, first to 1 November and then to 5 November. The poor weather continues and the attack was cancelled indefinitely.

Eastern Front

Germany creates a puppet Kingdom of Poland, with General Hans von Beseler as Governor General and the Kaiser as head of state. The new Kingdom attracts some support, but fails to provide as many recruits as the Germans had hoped.
