Battle of Verdun

The second day of the battle starts with a major artillery bombardment then a more determined German infantry attack than on the first day.

Colonel Briant, who had tried to warn the French High Command that Verdun was vulnerable, is killed fighting in the Bois des Caures, which falls to the Germans.

Germans take the village of Haumont after a day-long battle.
