The Wickes class destroyer USS Ludlow (DD-112) is commissioned. She served with the Atlantic Fleet in 1919-20 and the Pacific Fleet in 1921-29, after being converted into a light mine layer in 1920.
The Wickes class destroyer USS Upshur (DD-114) is commissioned. She served as a convoy escort ship in the Atlantic for most of the Second World War, and then as a plane guard and target ship in 1944-45
