Faced with the danger of a German breakthrough Haig issues his famous 'Backs to the Wall' order, forbidding any further retreat. The line holds, although the arrival of the 5th and 33rd Divisions and 1st Australian Division probably helps as much as the famous order.
The first attempt to carry out the Zeebrugge raid has to be cancelled after weather conditions change as the attacking force approaches Zeebrugge.
