Second Battle of Champagne

First day of the Second Battle of Champagne, part of the French contribution to the series of Allied offensives agreed in the summer of 1915. The French overrun parts of the German first line but never reach the second line despite a month and an half of costly assaults.

Battle of Loos

Start of the Battle of Loos, the British contribution to the 1915 summer offensive. The attack is launched by Douglas Haig's First Army, with a mix of three regular, one territorial and two New Army divisions. The attack also saw the first British use of poisoned gas. The gas was ineffective, but the initial British attacks were very successful. The German first line was breached and early in the morning Haig asked for the reserves to be committed. General French agreed, but it took all day for the two divisions to reach the correct place.
