Second Battle of Champagne

Official end of the Second Battle of Champagne. The French had lost 143,567 men. In some places they had advanced two and a half miles, but at no point had they captured the German second line of defences. German casualties were much lower, perhaps around 85,000 men, of whom 25,000 had been captured by the French.

War at Sea

HMS Albemarle, HMS Russell, HMS Hibernia and HMS Zealandia leave Rosyth at the start of a voyage to reinforce the fleet at the Dardanelles. The squadron runs into a gale on 11 November and is forced to turn back.

German S 49 class destroyer S 55 is launched
