The Morane-Saulnier M.S.51 was a version of the M.S.50 parasol wing primary trainer, but with an inline engine in place of the original aircraft's radial engine. The M.S.50 was a parasol-wing primary trainer that first appeared in 1924. It differed from the earlier M.S.35 in having a wing with rounded tips and an improved aerodynamic profile, but it didn’t enter French service. The M.S.51 was a variant powered by an Hispano-Suiza V-8 engine. Only two were produced, one from new and one by converting an M.S.50.
