Crashed Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero at Port Moresby
Here we see a Mitsubishi A6M2 that crash landed on the south coast of New Guinea on 28 April 1942.. The aircraft crashed into a coconut palm plantation at Otamata near to Abau Island, off the southern coast of New Guinea near to Port Moresby. The pilot, Yoshimitsu Maeda, survived and was captured. In order to move the aircraft to Port Moresby the wings were cut off to allow it to fit on a truck. We see it here at Port Moresby, with the left wing placed next to the aircraft. This picture was taken at some point in June-July 1942.
