Here we see one Matilda II infantry tank pulling another one out of a tank trap dug by the Japanese on Tarakan Island, off the coast of Borneo. Although the Matilda II was obsolete in Europe well before 1945, it was still a perfectly useful tank in the Pacific, where the best Japanese tanks remained on the Home Islands. Both of these tanks came from the 2/9th Australian Armoured Regiment, which took part in the Tarakan Landings
