HMS Peregrine (1916) was a repeat M class destroyer that served with the Grand Fleet from 1916-18, spending some of her time on detached duty in the south.
The Peregrine was ordered under the Fifth War Programme of May 1915. She was laid down at Browns on 9 June 1915, launched on 29 May 1916 and completed in July 1916.
1916
From July 1916 to December 1918 the Peregrine served with the 14th Destroyer Flotilla of the Grand Fleet
1917
On 5 March 1917 the Peregrine ran aground at Longhope, Orkney.
On 26 July 1917 the Norman and Peregrine were in the south, escorting the converted cruiser-minelayer Ariadne as she moved south from the Downs on her way to Plymouth. At 2.22pm the Ariadne was torpedoed by UC-65. She stayed afloat for some time, while the two destroyers attempted without success to find the submarine. At 3.12pm the Ariadne was hit by a second torpedo, and soon sank.
1918
On 21 January 1918 the Peregrine collided with the SS Amiral de Cornulier at Rothesay dock.
The 14th Flotilla took part in the surrender of the German High Seas Fleet on 21 November 1918.
Post-war
On 24 January 1919 she damaged the woodwork at Woodside Stage, Liverpool.
In December 1919 she was in the charge of a Care and Maintenance Party on the Nore.
She was sold to be broken up in November 1921
