General Wavell at Marjayoun, 1941
Here we see General Wavell directing operations at Marjayoun during the Allied invasion of Syria. Marjayoun is now in southern Lebanon, and was the site of three battles during the Syrian campaign - first falling to the Allies, then being retaken by the Vichy French and finally captured for a second time by the Allied. Allied wartime documents often call it Merj Ayoum.
