Wire Bridge at Wairopi
Here we see one of the wire rope bridges built across the Kumusi river at Wairopi (named after the wire rope bridges) on the Kokoda Trail. The very clear pair of wires that cross the picture aren't part of this bridge, but the real wires are quite hard to make out. One can be seen tied to the tree at the right. Two wires crossed the river, with 'V' shapes made of timber suspended below them, and a plank walkway added in the base of the 'V'. This bridge is very low, and the troops at the far side are actually wading through the top of the water!
