US Troops near Pfalzgrafenstein Castle
Here we see US troops near Pfalzgrafenstein Castle on the Rhine, late in 1918 or early in 1919. This was a medieval toll castle once used to control movement downthe narrow safe channel of the Rhine and collect tolls from passing ships, using a chain to bar the river until the toll was paid.
