Tsar Nicholas II and Grand Duke Nicholas
Here we see Tsar Nicholas II (centre) with Grand Duke Nicholas (right), the commander-in-chief of the Russian armies at the start of the First World War. The Grand Duke was an able commander, but he was replaced after a series of Russian
defeats. The Tsar took over in person, making him responsible for future defeats.
