Thirteen Survivors of 1914 2nd Grenadier Guards, 1919
Here we see the only thirteen men who went to France in August 1914 with the 2nd Battalion, Grenadier Guards, and survived with the battalion to return to the UK in March 1919. This is a grim statistic, but it is worth remembering that many of the missing men would have been invalided out or taken prisoner (especially in the mobile warfare of 1914), so the total number of survivors from the Guards of August would have been somewhat higher.
