Supply Ship Elbe on Fire
Here we see the 9,179 ton German blockade runner Elbe on fire after being hit by aircraft from the carrier HMS Eagle on 6 June 1941. The Elbe sank as a result of the damage, 900 miles to the north-west of the Cape Verde Islands (in the mid Atlantic).
