Staffordshire Regiment advancing at Binagadi, August 1918
Here we see troops from the Staffordshire Regiment advancing to occupy high ground near Binagadi (on the outskirts of Baku), to replace Armenia troops who had withdrawn from the position. The men in open order in the distance were advancing under machine gun fire. This fighting occured in late August 1918, and was part of the wider battle for Baku, which ended with the British withdrawing to the south and the city in Turkish hands.
