Spitfire Returning from raid on France
Here we see a Spitfire landing in Britain after one of the costly raids over France that were meant to wear down the Luftwaffe. Instead the strategy of 'leaning over the channel' cost the RAF more pilots than the Luftwaffe, giving the Germans the home advantage the RAF had enjoyed during the Battle of Britain.
