Sopwith 2F1 Camel lands on HMS Argus
Here we see a Sopwith 2F1 Camel coming in to land on the early aircraft carrier HMS Argus. Note the series of wires running parallel to the aircraft's approach, an early form of arrestor gear. The idea was that hooks on the aircraft would catch on the aircraft, slowing it down and also stopping it from being blown over the side of the aircraft, a real danger with the lighter aircraft of the First World War.
