Ruins of Mametz after Battle of the Somme
Here we see the ruins of Mametz, captured by the British early in the battle of the Somme. This picture must have been taken some time later, probably after the Germans had pulled back to the Hindenburg Line, as the well surfaced road doesn't look like something to be found close to the front line. Note the well built memorial to the fallen on the right.
