General William Robertson and Marshal Foch, Cologne, 1919
Here we see General William Robertson, Commander-in-Chief of the British Army of Occupation in 1919 and Marshal Foch, during a visit by the Marshal to Cologne in May 1919. Robertson was Chief of the Imperial General Staff from 1916-18 and the only man ever to rise from being an enlisted man (trooper in the cavalry) to Field Marshal in the British Army.
