Liberty Ship Robert E Peary being launched
Here we see the Liberty Ship Robert E Peary being launched after being built in a record time of 4 days, 15 hours and 16 minutes from laying the keel to launch, at No. 2 Yard of Kaiser's shipyard at Richmond, California. She also broke the record for delivery to the end user, of 7 days, 14 hours and 32 minutes from the keel being laid. Much of the speed was achieved by building her from large prefabricated parts, but it did demonstrate how fast the American ship building industry could work.
