Edward, Prince of Wales in Uniform, 1914
Edward, Prince of Wales (the future Edward VIII), joined the Grenadier Guards in 1914 and wanted to go to the front after the outbreak of the First World War. He wasn't allowed to take part in actual combat, but did visit the front whenever possible and was awarded a valid Military Cross in 1916.
