President Poincare promotes Petain to Marshal
Here we see President Poincare of France handing Petain his baton as a Marshal of France at Metz on 8 December 1918. Behind Petain is an impressive grouping of the great and the good of the Allied high command, with Joffre, Foch, Haig, Pershing, Gillian (Belgium), Haller (Portugal), Albricci (Italy) and Weygand all present.
