Parachute Bombs falling on airfield at Wewak, 1943
Here we see a line of Allied parachute bombs about to land close to the dispersal area on a Japanese airfield at Wewak, New Guinea, at some point in 1943. These will have been American 'Parafrag' bombs, where the parachute was used to delay the explosion of the fragmentation bomb long enough to allow low flying aircraft to escape the blast area.
