Five Ocean Class Cargo Ships being launched
Here we see the Ocean class cargo ships Ocean WayfarerOcean StrangerOcean TravellerOcean Seaman, and Ocean Gallant being launched at the Todd-Bath Iron Shipbuilding Yard at South Portland, Maine on 16 August 1942. On the same day Todd launched a Liberty ship and Bath two destroyers at nearby yards, making it the largest mass launch in the war shipbuilding programme to that date. The Ocean class ships were built for Britain, and their design was used as the basis for the Liberty ships.
