Mobile Anti-Aircraft Guns in Britain, First World War

Here we see seven mobile anti-aircraft guns being inspected in front of the north facade of Kenwood House, Hampstead, probably in December 1915 when other similar pictures were taken. At the time the house was being rented by Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich, who had been exiled from Russia because of his marriage. He offered the house for use as a war hospital. From November 1915 to August 1916 the Royal Naval Anti-Aircraft Mobile Brigade was based in the stables.

The majority of the guns appear to be the same type, the QF 3-in 20 cwt gun on a pedestal mount, the most common British anti-aircraft gun on home defense duties during the First Worl dWar. The gun on the right looks to be slightly larger, and lacks the fittings of the 3in gun. It may be a 4in naval gun Mk V, which was also used in small numbers on home defense.
