Inn of the good Samaritan from the air, c.1918
Here we see the mountainous ground on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho, fought over by the British and Ottomans early in 1918. In the centre of the picture is a small square enclosure known as the Inn of the Good Samaritan, and associated with the bible story. Just above it is a hilltop fortress, the remains of a Crusader castle built on top of the ruins of a Roman fortress.
