General Hirschauer reads proclamation at Kehl
Here we see General Auguste Hirschauer reading a proclamation to the representatives of the German authorities at Kehl in late January 1919. Kehl lies directly opposite Strasbourg, on the east bank of the Rhine, and was in the French occupation area after the First World War. Hirschauer ended the war as commander of the French Second Army, and went on to serve as Governor of Strasbourg and was elected senator for Moselle in 1920, 1924 and 1932.
