Here we see Gloster Nightjar H8535 from the front. This was a single seat naval fighter based on the Nieuport Nighthawk of 1918. Gloster had purchased the rights to the Nighthawk after the British Nieuport company closed in 1920 and marketed it as the Gloster Mars. The Nightjar (or Mars X) used a Bentley BR.2 rotary engine in place of the unreliable ABC Dragonfly radial of the Nighthawk. The Nightjar can easily be identified by the engine cowling - the Nighthawk didn't have one.
