General Paul Pau (1848-1932)
General Paul Pau lost his arm during the Franco-Prussian War. At the start of the First World War he was given command of the Army
of Alsace, but after some early successes Pau was forced to retreat. His army was broken up to provide reinforcements for the Allied left and he was sent to serve as a French military representative in Russia.
