This page from Lt. D.W. Gay's Log Book gives an assessment of his operation training and a final summary of his flight hours with the Operational Training Unit. Gay passed the course, and was average or there abouts on each of the required topics. The remarks aren't terribly easy to read, but probably say 'Capable navigator. Positioning erratic, but live bombing exercise good'. He wasn't recommended for further training in navigation, but instead would go to No.12 Squadron, SAAF, a Marauder unit operating in the Italian theatre.
